More Incubator/Street Food Resources

I'm piggybacking off the email Ken sent on April 14th about La Cocina.  They have a resource section on their page that lists California and Federal resources on setting up small food businesses, including mobile vendors.  There are a few links to projects in NY and SFO focused specifically on mobile vendors. Check them out:…See More

What are the Urban Ag Stone Soup Projects?

The Stone Soup Projects are an experiment in creating “open source” economic development projects to accelerate the growth of a sustainable regional food system. Our first “series” of projects are on urban farming. Each project is intended to be designed for everyone and anyone to contribute what they can in the way of time and skills.

At a kickoff event on Nov 7th, a diverse group of participants broke into design teams to brainstorm one project idea per group that meets at least two of the three challenges. The three challenges were:
* How do we engage a sufficient number of people in urban farming with a goal of building a self-reliant community?
* How can urban agriculture help meet the demand for affordable, fresh, sustainably and justly produced food in economically disadvantaged areas in Seattle?
* How can urban agriculture become an economically viable opportunity for immigrants, disadvantaged youth and other folks who need work?

We came up with three project designs. You can view video of the original project proposals and of the entire kickoff event on this network site.

Grist: The new wave of urban farming (and fresh food from small spaces!)

Do you dream of an organic garden, but don’t have a yard? A flock of chicks, perhaps, but don’t have a yard? Home-grown food, and lower grocery bills (but, alas, no yard!)? Dream no more, because you can have it, and without quitting your job, trading your bus pass for a pickup, or moving to the rural north.

A new wave of farming is happening in a city near you. While true, Old MacDonald had a farm (ee-i-ee-i-o), his offspring have some urban fish to fry. They’re working off loans,… Continue

This is for the "Resource Center Team!!

I knew about this place a little, however until yesterday it really didn't occur to me....this is a GREAT model to craft our local variant I think. It has many of the elements discussed yesterday and brings together a centralized physical and digital point.

http://www.resourcecenterchicago.org/

It is also utilizing our collective skill sets dynamically.
